About

Hi, and thanks for dropping by.

I’ve been an active climber for over forty years, enjoying all aspects of the climbing game: bouldering, sport, trad’, winter mountaineering, ice and Alpine climbing as well as still doing the odd bit of backpacking and scrambling.

After writing a Ph.D about the function of landscape in the Icelandic sagas, and then a novel about Galileo, I turned my attention to writing about the outdoor activities I’ve spent so much time doing. I’m a regular contributor to Climber and Climb magazines: destination articles, reviews and pieces about the physical and emotional experiences of climbing. In addition, I’ve produced commissioned pieces for websites and assisted in the production of two rock-climbing guides.

I am a member of the Outdoor Writers and Photographers Guild.

I studied for my B.A. and M.Phil at The University of Birmingham and my Ph.D at the University of Leeds.

I live and work near Birmingham in the UK and am currently available for writing and research commissions.
